  1. Parent Company of Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, and KFC Adopts an AI-First Approach Super App for Employee Meal Prep

Yum Brands, the parent company of Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, and KFC, is adopting an AI-first approach in its fast-food chains. They are implementing a "Super App" which employees can use for tasks like meal preparation guidance, replacing traditional training materials. This app, already in use in over 8,700 locations, allows staff to manage work schedules and order supplies. Additionally, Yum Brands is developing a generative AI chatbot for the Super App to assist workers with specific queries such as oven temperatures. The company is also exploring AI for drive-through voice assistance and optimising drive-through wait times. However, the use of generative AI in food preparation raises concerns over potential health hazards and job displacement, though Yum Brands emphasises it aims to enhance worker experiences. This transition reflects Yum Brands' ongoing interest in AI, demonstrated by earlier AI-powered menus in China.

  1. J.P. Morgan Chase Takes a Step Toward Becoming a Super App with Chase Media Solutions Launch

J.P. Morgan Chase has launched Chase Media Solutions, a unique bank-led retail media network. This platform differentiates itself by offering personalised advertising, leveraging Chase's substantial customer base of 80 million and their transaction data. Brands can target these customers with customised offers and rewards, tapping into their preferences and spending habits. This move signifies Chase's steps towards becoming a Super App, integrating banking, credit, payments, investments, and now media services. The integration of Figg, a card-linked marketing platform, further enhances Chase's commerce platform. This initiative reflects a broader trend in the financial industry, where banks are increasingly favoured over FinTechs in developing Super Apps, offering seamless, integrated services across various domains. Over half of consumers trust financial institutions to deliver such Super Apps, positioning Chase advantageously in the digital finance landscape.

  1. Belgium's National Operator Proximus Jumps on the Super App Bandwagon

Proximus, Belgium's national operator, has launched Proximus+, a Super App aimed at enhancing customer satisfaction and digital service offerings. This app evolves from MyProximus, which provided telecom-related services, and now includes features for real-time monitoring of energy and water usage, weather forecasts, traffic conditions, event discovery, bookings, and multimedia content. The integrated services in Proximus+ are designed for ease of use, with seamless sign-in and payment processes. This move positions Proximus competitively against other telcos like Orange and Telenet, marking a strategic effort to integrate and expand digital services beyond traditional telecom, in line with the global trend of telcos adopting Super Spps for diversified business opportunities.
