  1. TADA Launches Ride-Hailing Miniapp in Telegram

TADA, a Southeast Asian ride-hailing service, has launched a new Telegram miniapp in partnership with the TON Foundation. This miniapp allows users to book rides directly within Telegram Messaging Super App and pay using cryptocurrencies like Toncoin and USDT via the TON blockchain. The service is available in Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, and Cambodia.

"At TADA, we’ve always focused on innovations that benefit both riders and drivers. Looking ahead, TADA mini plans to expand into new regions, aiming to provide this service to a wider audience,” said James Yang, CIO of MVL, the parent company of TADA.

This collaboration aims to bridge the gap between web2 and web3 by integrating cryptocurrency payments into a widely-used messaging app. TADA, powered by MVL, is known for its innovative approach, benefiting both riders and drivers, with plans to expand the service to more regions in the future.

"If we want to accelerate the successful adoption of web3 solutions, it's crucial that strong partnerships are forged with exciting web2 platforms that enable their users to quickly become familiar with the many benefits of web3," said Harvey Kim, Head of Korea at the TON Foundation.

  1. GCash Doubles Down on AI to Step up Customer Service, Financial Services

GCash, the Filipino e-wallet Super App, has introduced a suite of AI-driven features to enhance user experience, unveiled at the GCash FutureCast event. Among the key additions is “Gigi,” an AI-powered digital assistant designed to streamline customer support by offering personalised and secure assistance, recalling past conversations, and connecting users to live agents when necessary.

"Think of Gigi as your personal GCash concierge. No need to go elsewhere – whether it’s simple or complicated, you can count on Gigi to provide instant answers,” said Pebbles Sy, Chief Technology and Operations Officer of GCash.

Other innovations include “GCoach AI,” a generative AI tool providing financial advice on budgeting, saving, and long-term planning, and “GScore AI,” which calculates users’ credit scores based on financial activity within the app. These features aim to improve users' access to loans, better interest rates, and financial opportunities, especially for those with limited credit history.

Additionally, GCash launched “Hyper Personalised Ads,” a feature that tailors shopping recommendations based on users' spending habits and preferences. This AI-driven tool delivers curated offers from partner merchants, providing a more personalised and targeted shopping experience for GCash users.

  1. Gozem Takes On Giants In Mobile Money Push Amid Super App Shakeup

Gozem, the Togolese startup known for its Super App approach, is expanding into the mobile money sector with the launch of Gozem Money in Q4 2024. Initially focused on ride-hailing and delivery services, Gozem’s new offering will allow users to conduct digital financial transactions, such as money transfers and bill payments, through its Super App. This move follows the acquisition of Beninese fintech Moneex, accelerating Gozem’s ambitions in the fintech space across Togo and Benin.

Gozem’s strategy involves leveraging its transportation network to drive the adoption of its financial services, starting with Togo, where mobile money services are still growing. Although the market is dominated by existing players like TMoney and Flooz, Gozem sees significant growth potential. By partnering with financial institutions like NSIA Banque, Gozem aims to offer a comprehensive mobile financial solution to its 160,000 users in Togo, Benin, Cameroon, and Gabon, eventually expanding to credit services.

Despite challenges in the broader African Super App landscape, Gozem remains confident in its approach, drawing on Francophone West Africa's unique market dynamics and currency stability. With 57% of Africa's population unbanked, Gozem’s entry into mobile money could play a pivotal role in digital financial inclusion across the region, solidifying its position as a leading Super App platform.
